Re: Template for mobile browsers

I have similar results. No table elements. All css. The differences are simply in css item settings. I have a border, you don't. Change the css to suit taste. My controls are more grouped. Change the css to suit taste. Different button style. Change the css to suit taste. Same for font style, color,...

Re: Template for mobile browsers

It's a work in progress. I had forgotten the meta tag in the header.html, so I added that for the mobile template. Then tweaked two values in css. The current result (remember, still a work in progress) can be seen at https://worldspaceflight.com/sphider/search.php . Now WorldSpaceFlight has no need...

Template for mobile browsers

Sphider 2.2 is under development. One of the coming features of 2.2 is the ability to detect a mobile browser when doing a search and presenting a search page which is easier to read on a mobile. Worldspaceflight.com is on the bleeding edge of Sphider 2.2.0. You can compare the search page on deskto...

Re: Extended UA String

In the next release of Sphider, the maximum size of the user_agent column in the database will be increased to varchar(50). The text box for User Agent in configset.php will remain at 20 characters. Like any text box, you can enter more characters than just the box size. You just won't see ALL the t...

Re: Responsive template for Spider

For the classic version of Sphider, I have followed your suggestion and removed tables from the search portion (normal, RSS, and image). I added appropriate css script for each of the templates. Looks nice. I also created a new template, which I named "mobile". Simply by changing a few things in the...

Re: Responsive template for Spider

That's what I was sure you were doing, but I just wanted it to be clear for others who may not have read your prior post on RWD. :) You are correct that CSS is the proper response to Rabattkod's request. The bootstrap DOES add a lot of unnecessary code and complexity. It would NOT be an ideal soluti...

Re: Responsive template for Spider

If by "removing tables" you are referring to the database, beware that this will impact configset.php, conf.php, db_main.php, and db_backup.php for sure. Perhaps other places as well, but those definitely. If by "removing tables" you mean in the code removing "<table>", "<tr>", and "<td>" and doing ...

Re: Sphider template bootstrap

Getting an idea overnight, I gave this a try: In Sphider, rename search.php to search-new.php. Rename search-160.php to search.php. In the common_templates folder, create a new subfolder named save. Move categories.php, footer.php, search_form.php, and search_results.php to the "save" folder. From t...

Re: Sphider template bootstrap

I'll have to look at this template in more detail. My offhand suspicion is that this template was coded for the ORIGINAL Sphider 1.3.6, from which Sphider 2.1 is descended. But Sphider 2.1 is has undergone MANY changes since 1.3.6. This template may no longer be compatible. But, as I said, I will ne...

Re: Extended UA String

Would it be wise? Absolutely not! The more people who download and use Sphider, the greater the likelihood of one of them getting a bad reputation. If they, and many others, use the default "Sphider" as a user agent, that could ruin it for everyone. If, however, a user only uses Sphider to build an ...
