POSSIBLE indexing issue with Sphider 2.4.0

There is a POSSIBILITY that Sphider 2.4.0 may refuse to index a site from a browser window. If instead of seeing indexing results you get something like: 240results.JPG then the problem is likely in spider.php, lines 86-89. Change this: } elseif (isset($_SERVER['argv']) && $_SERVER['argc'] < 2) { co...

Re: Sphider 2.4.0 not indexing

Looking at your settings, I can't see ANYTHING out of the ordinary. Now it's time to get serious! Imagick - This is used to display previews in search results. It is also used during indexing to try to determine image size if sizse tags are missing. Sphider can still index without it and can still s...

Re: Sphider 2.4.0 not indexing

Initially, using Sphider 2.4.1 (which is yet unreleased but MUCH like 2.4.0), I tried to index http://www.grangewoodplastics.co.uk. It immediatedly failed, giving me a NOHOST error. After installing Sphider 2.2.0 and creating a database for that, I was able to successfully index the site. I upgraded...

Sphider 3-MB (multi-byte) fork

The regular edition of Sphider (currently at 2.4.0) will continue to be maintained with periodic improvements. The 2.4.x series is being ported to a new fork, Sphider 3-MB. Sphider 3-MB will replace all standard string operations with multi-byte string (mbstring) operations. This will ensure proper ...

Re: Problem of HTML entities and quotes in search result

Now that Sphider 2.4.0 is released, I've gone back to your site. I've found the the function removeEmoji(0 in and of itself was not the problem, but its placement. So, in future releases this: $host = $data['host']; $path = $data['path']; $fulltxt = $data['fulltext']; $fulltxt = removeEmoji($fulltxt...

Re: Problem of HTML entities and quotes in search result

The problem of the "&" in the title disappearing and leaving "nbsp;" is resolved in Sphider 2.4. Also in the titles, the missing apostrophes are restored. Second issue is the truncation occurring in the description. This occurs when the apostrophe (&apos:) character is encountered. Sphider gets the ...

Re: Problem of HTML entities and quotes in search result

Probably a filter somewhere. I'll take a look. -------------------------------------------- UPDATE 4/6: There seems to be a twofold issue. Using Sphider v2.3, none of the full text of pages from http://www.equiterre.fr is being stored. This is probably related to the truncation issue. Trying a diffe...

Cause spidering to pause after indexing a specified number of pages

If you wish to cause spidering to pause for a short time after indexing a certain number of pages, an easy edit can make this possible. Let's say that after indexing 30 pages, you want Sphider to take a five minute break, then resume for another 30 pages. Open spider.php. Find "function indexUrl". R...
